'89 f250....I was referring to the air pump and all the hoses that cover the top of the engine.

I have a '93 F-250 with a 351/AOD. My cat is gone and a bearing in my air pump went out about a month ago. I bought a shorter belt temporarliy and removed the pump to match it to a replacement. (Which of course had to be ordered.) During that time my truck ran beautifully with no "check engine" light or any signs of a problem. Mind you my hoses were still there, but they were just tied to the fender and left open for a few days. I don't know if this will help you or not, but it's worth a shot.
