Squealing Noise - Intermittant
When we bought our 1996 F350 Crew Cab, there was a problem with the clutch. It kept breaking, meaning we would push in the clutch and bang, the pedal would go to the floor. Finally after having it towed in 7 times, the dealership took the thing apart and found what was causing the problem. They replaced the clutch but didn't replace the flywheel. I'm not mechanical, so I'm not sure if I'm saying all this correctly.
Anyway, its been 6 years or more and we haven't had any problems until recently. Now, we have this squeal. It isn't real loud, but it is annoying.
When we push in the clutch, the noise goes away.
Any idea what this could be??

Had a similar situation with my 2002 f-250 super duty. I checked several different things until I found out the Drive Shaft support bearing was going bad. Take it to a mechanic's shop and put the truck on a lift. They will have to start the engine, put it in gear and let the rear wheels run. Mine first started out a squeak when I got about 50 mph. At the problem got worse the speed the squeak started at got slower and slower. Ususally this bearing is press fit onto the drive shaft but apparently Ford pinches it between the drive shaft yoke and the large portion of the drive shaft. Anyhow, replaced mine and it quit squeaking.

I'm thinking it probably is the throwout bearing.
Is this something thats easy to change? Or, would it be best to bring it to a shop?
Out of curiousity, what do you think this would cost if a shop did it??

Yeppers sure sounds like the throw out brg, You didnt say how many miles since the last clutch job ? and normally on a clutch job u dont have to replace the flywheel unless it broke ( they re-surface it, or suppose to when they do a clutch job ),,, normally when the pilot brg goes bad the one up in the flywheel, u have problems shifting , I have had trucks come in with the pilot brg gone completly, an or the input shaft on the Trans all chewed an scared up

The clutch was replaced under warranty at approx. 45,000 mi. The truck now has 115,000 miles on it.
I know for sure that the dealership did not replace the flywheel, I'm thinking they probably didn't replace the throwout bearing either.
The truck is easy to shift.

Ok, now for a really stupid question....
To put a new clutch in (don't worry, I won't do it, my husband will... hahahaha...), I'm going to shop for the best price.
When asking about the clutch, do I just ask for pricing on that or would I need to ask for more than just the clutch??
