Tow command

Tow command
I just purchased an 06 F350 6.0. It doesn't have the factory trailer brake controller but I see that the wires are behind the dash. Dealer says it cost $600.00 for it because you have to replace the master cylinder. My master cylinder has a harness plugged into it already. Does anyone know the true story on this? Should I just wire my Prodigy controller to the existing harness and do you know what color wires in the harness do what?
Thanks Nate

RE: Tow command
Hi Nate..
To add the Tow Command you do have to change out the master cylinder.. The TC master cylinder incorporates a brake pressure transducer.. The trucks harness is brake controller ready for non OEM units, but you need the adapter pigtail to make the connection (wires are 'tagged' for controller hook up) to the truck but it just plugs in.. You may have gotten one in you glove box packet, if not, theiravailable at the dealers parts dept.. The brake controller wires/plug are 'snapped' on to the back of the cubby compartment where the tow command/upfitter switches go.. Once released, the harness swings just slightly up and over (left) to the mounting bracket.. There are pre installed holes in the bracket (topside on bracket) and the harness clips right in with plenty of wire for a mount....

RE: Tow command
Thanks for the info. I had found the harness but the truck didn't come with a pigtail. I asked the salesman about it when i bought the truck and he said everything was there that I needed. I'll head back to the dealerwhen I get a chance.
Thanks again. Nate

RE: Tow command
The Ford dealer I bought my new truck from says they don't sell the short harness anymore, only for the F150. They tell me to buy the kit for the Tow Command or splice into the factory harness. Quality is job one!
