CVT Transmission WOES
Bought my wife a 2005 Ford 500 brand new. Dutifully maintained it perfectly at every factory designated interval. Dealt with it burning up a set of rear brake pads in 21k miles. Odd. Dealt with rear doors retaining water. Dealt with the AC compressor quitting at 87k (and had the transmission serviced at that time). Now at 96,885, the stealership advised me the transmission is "out" and needs replacing to the tune of $4485+ labor.
I was always of the opinion that you maintain a vehicle like you should and it will give you years of faithful service. This is not the case. Honestly just asking opinions. Is this common? Does that cost seem excessive? If it was you, what would you do. I drove it to and from the dealership. Its running fine, chugs a little, but nothing else. I wonder how long it will continue like that? I dont like snap judgements on buying cars, and that feels like what this is turning into. I just dont think I can see putting another $5k into this car.
