Haha this is funny. I actually tried one of those off ebay on my contour...I couldn't tell a difference. And contrary to what they claim, the device CAN set off your check engine light if the voltage isn't right. If you're looking for something like that, get a Tornado fuel saver. I put one(it wasn't tornado, it was a generic knockoff) in my ZX2 and it definitely made a difference. I think it depends on where in the air intake you mount it that makes all the difference. The closer to your intake manifold you can get, the better. I get 40+mpg at 65mph cruising now with my Zetec and 2500lb ZX2. And it's rated at 26/33 mpg. Go figure. I bet a ZX3 could get 39 or better depending on transmission. Of course, I also have Bosch platinum 4 plugs and Zmax engine treatment.

you can do the mod yourself for the price of a 10-cent, x-ohm resistor... that's all they're selling regardless of what package it's in. google it to find out the mod for your vehicle. You can even run a pot from your iat sensor to your dash, and tweak it from there... but i don't know if it works.

i bought a performance chip for my focuse SE 2000. Didnt make that much of a difference. I guess I shouldn't be expecing to burn rubber and race at the Indy. It did change the trans shifting somehow and it opened up the governor. I think i had more change from installing a cold air intake than anything. I also have a performance muffler. didnt notice much difference from that either. My car may be a little more faster than a normal focus but for over a 1000 dollars of upgrades Im not bragging.

There is no chip that boosts performance, this is a myth for our vehicals.

this guy here summed it up well..

"Manufacturers have big budgets and lots of resources. It is in their best interest to optimize the engine management systems to perform as well as possible in all areas of performance. That includes driveability, fuel economy, power, ignition timing, altitude compensation, hot starting, cold starting, warm-up, etc. While they must obviously make some compromises here and there, they do achieve a pretty seamless overall package.

With a totally stock system you would have to give up something (mileage, driveability, low end performance, etc.) to get something else like more power at the top end. And most chip "tuner" companies don't have a lot of resources and have to "reverse engineer" the stock chip and make an educated guess at what might be "better". Usually they don't do so well. If you get 2 or 3 % more top end power at the expense of 5 or more MPG and a "flat spot" just off idle and a lean surge at 30-40 MPH is it worth it? Usually not.

Most factory systems have enough built in "adjust-ability" to compensate for minor mods like uprated air filters and freer flowing exhaust.

If you do major performance mods that end up requiring more than the stock system can provide then a custom tuned chip and fuel system mods are in order. The ONLY way to successfully set up the system is with a dyno and calibrated fuel mixture measuring devices to program that chip for that specific engine. There is NO practical way to program a chip for an engine by estimation and therefore NO way an "off the shelf" aftermarket chip can be an exact match for any tuned engine unless that engines needs happens to exactly match the parameters programmed onto the chip.

I wouldn't put a dollar on the odds of that happening. "

Just remember that all these resistors do is make a sensor stuck one way or another to trick the computer to full, trouble is this is not healthy to a engine...

Chipping a Car basicly was something done Before Engine computers got smart.
iF you get a Tune to your car this is different from someone like SCT, it will enhance the car to what you want, more agressive timing, agressive shifting if automatic and so on, my suggestion is if you buy these CHIPS your getting riped off and need to get your money back.

I used a chip like that and it was placed in where the intake reads temperature.. Basically it just leans out the motor and makes a little more power. Is it reliable? Hell no. Lean it out too much and kiss your rings good bye

When an engine is running good and performing well, it's music to the trained ear.
Most of the time as previously stated in an earlier post the manufacturer has squeezed all they could out of an engine within reason. If more power is desired simply stated ,"Go to a larger engine" !
