Default 2007 Focus Se "Real World MPG"

Just recently purchased a used 2007 Focus SE w/Automatic tranny for the wife to buzz around in since we have our MKZ garaged in Arizona. The Focus has 59,000 miles on it. I am wondering what I should/can expect for a real world average MPG out of this. The dealer filled the tank up and we ran it down to just under 1/2 tank. Took 7 gallons for 180 miles. This gave me a 25.7 MPG. Just added a bottle of AMSOIL P.I. fuel additive and filled the tank up. Will see what I after this tank is done with. However, was just curious what folks were getting for an average.

Well, will have to wait on my MPG check. The COP went bad on cylinder #3. Had to drive it about 57 miles to the dealership for it to be repaired under the "USED CAR" warranty. Sucked up quite a bit of fuel running on 3 cylinders.

The Dealer replaced the COP and spark plug for cylinder #3 (Kind of). That's what the work order shows. So, I went ahead and bought 3 additional Motorcraft plugs from the Dealer. I Figured...since the car has 59K miles on it, I might as well have 4 new spark plugs (kind of).

Put the new skark plugs into Cylinders # 1, 2 & 4. Figured what the heck, I might as well see how the new plug in cylinder #3 was burning. Low and behold, the old plug was still in there. Called the Service Manager, who in turn talked to the mechanic. Mechanic fessed up that since the plug was firing OK, he left the old one in, but still wrote up that he replaced it. I told the Service Manager..."Great...Now I have 3 new plugs and 1 old plug in the engine...If I would have known that...I wouldn't have bought the new plugs at $13.50 each...Soooooo...Where's my new plug and how do I get it...I'm not driving 75 miles round trip for a spark plug". So after some apparent back-peddling...The Service Manager dropped it off at my house last night at 21:30. Now I actually do have 4 new Motorcraft plugs in the engine.

Now I'll run the rest of the fuel with the AMSOIL P.I. in it. Then I'll check the mileage since I'm presently just over 1/4 tank with 190 miles on it. Wayyy crappier than before the COP failure. Oh yeah...they didn't have an OEM coil in stock, so it has an aftermarker coil on the #3 cylinder.

Will update my MPG in a few days...

Update: Well, after about 2,500 miles of driving, we are averaging between 35-43 MPG on the highway. Mileage varies on weather, terrain and driver. However, for the most part, I am quite please with how this buggy is performing. For the winter, I installed new Goodyear Ultra Grip®" Winter" snow tires on all 4 corners and had no traction issues thru the winter.

In the future, four C.O.P.s from Accel and Four Bosh four prong plugs, [my Ford Dealer refused to install Motorcraft, says he wants no come backs] . All done at the same time after the first 100,000 miles...it seems like a lot of COP's are failing. They don't like heat, nor vibration. When one fails, the rest follow suit. And remember while your pushing 75 mph down some Arizona road that resistance through air squares as speed doubles. And on grippy friction creating snow tires? Wow 35 to 43 mpg is outstanding.

skip.

Currently live in Western NY. We have a 2nd home in Arizona, so I don't know what it would get in Arizona. The only vehicle that stays in Arizona is our MKZ. I put AMSOIL in everything I own, so that helps quite a bit. Heck, even my 9 year old Freestar with 134,000 miles still averages 22+ on the highway at 75MPH..

Unfortunately, things like these are what gives some dealerships a black eye.
In the interest of pure harmony, maybe skip should introduce his dealership to the dealership that did the plug trick. The two dealerships should get along well together.

Joe owns Joe Witt Ford in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin and being a small town we know each other by site. So that's good. He knows that me and my partners had Fourintune Garages Incorporated in Cedarburg, Wisconsin and that we ONLY worked on 'Fine' British Motor cars. [Cough, cough]. And Witt Ford is a physically small dealership so really nobody is a stranger.

I'm trusted enough to walk into the shop once or twice when my car is on the rack, ignoring all signs and speak directly to the mechanic turning the wrench. I don't hold him up nor spend too much time, but just enough to get the skinny on what's going on with my car.

The other day the wife's 2007 Mercury Montego awd with 16,700 miles on the clock came in for the computer prescribed oil/filter/air filter, tire rotation and a general wheels off look~see at the pads, rotors [7mm], fluids, fresh synthic blend MotorCraft 5w30. I was pleased to see once things were back together he started it up, raised it up and took yet another look~see for drips or what ever, 'Mr. Wrench' ie, Chris, even wragged up his hand and plugged the tail pipe to take a listen for leaks. of course the muffler's weep hole sputtered a bit. All O.K. I took a second look as well. All O.K.

I did have a long standing complaint, and expressed it here on FORDFOURM, the dealership, and to Ford Motor Company on Facebook where I pissed and mowed about the tire pressure continually going down. Pirelli Tires? Aluminum Rim Leaks? Valves? This time all four road tires were peeled off the rims, the rims power brushed back to clean, a new and improved [the old goop, I was told became brittle] Ford tire black-goopy rim sealant was slathered on around the bead and the tires put back on, re-balanced and installed front to back and back to front. We'll see if that fixes this problem. Of course I had to pay $56.00 for the R&R and brushing...not too bad me thinks.

I have it in writing and made with the contract to purchase the car back in 2007, as long as I continue to have the computer controlled [timed] services done at Witt Ford, and when my 17 inch Pirelli's die, he'll supply a new set at his cost. [We'll see].

Because it's a small town and there are no secrets if I'm not happy [within reason] the word will be spread...buy from Witt. A lot of cars running around town with Witt stickers on the back. So I guess were O.K.

skip. I'm going to copy/paste this on Ford Motor's Facebook too.
