Default Focus hits rev limiter in a automatic? Help?

Hello,

Have an issue when I hit WOT in drive. It then will hit the rev limiter at 6300. Same as if it was in 1st or 2nd gear only. Its annoying! When I get on the freeway and nail it, the rev limiter will kick in! It's an automatic. This only happens from 1st-2nd when in drive "D".

How I found out after chasing this for the past week and replacing parts. The light bulb went off the other night. Told wife I'd be right back. lol. Took car down the street, put it into 1st gear. Took off in test mode on the guage. Watched the tach hit 6300 and got the same feeling. Although it stayed around 6300 or so. Then stopped, put it into drive, took off again, and same feeling! It hits 6300, but this time, I watched the tach drop down to 5900 and shift into 2nd.

So, I am at a light. I nail it. Keep in mind the guage is in test mode to see the rpm. I can see it climb in 1st gear gear, once it hits 6300, rev limiter kicks in, it bucks back and fourth, drops to 5900 +/- and shifts into 2nd gear.

Here is some history:

2003 Ford focus. Bought it about 60 days ago. Had the spi motor (sohc). Died a week later. Put in the zetec motor (dohc) motor. Trans died the next day. Had shop put a new trans in (not rebuilt, new).

What is causing the trans to allow it to hit the rev limiter in an automatic? Now, if I remove the TPS (throttle position sensor) it shifts hard, no cel, but it shifts before rev limiter. So, I did replace it. No luck. I did test teh new one, it is within specs. Closed: .81 Fully open: 4.65

Any help or feedback would be great.

Thanks

Didi you change/reprogram the CPU with the engine change? If not, that could be your issue since the SOHC and the DOHC engines are completely different animals with different timing requirements.

ECU was swapped with the correct one.

Could be you're hitting the factory set REV limit of the ECU that was swapped in. Have you tried having the ECU re-flashed to see if that resolves the problem?
