Question Gas Pedal Vibration

Good day all! I have an 07 SE. In the last week or so, I've noticed a vibration, not severe, in the gas pedal. Mostly low speeds. It diminishes as speed increases. Can't tell if it is associated with accelerating or something with the front end. Rpms appear ok (no tach). No maintenance has been done on the engine or the front end and have not hit any big bumps. Any ideas? Thanks!

2007 models should be drive-by-wire, so there's no way for the gas pedal to vibrate. Can you verify, with the ignition off, if moving the gas pedal causes the throttle plate to move as well? If it does, then your car has the traditional mechanical throttle. If not, then it's drive-by-wire (electronic actuator)

Either way, the gas pedal has nothing attached to it that can cause the vibration, so what you feel is most likely a vibration transmitted through the car frame - I would check the engine/tranny rubber mounts for integrity.

Question

cougar_fan, thanks for the reply. Just to clarify, I feel the "vibration" in my foot not the pedal actually moving. Did some different things. Accelerated, not hard or long, while in park and neutral. Didn't notice a vibration. When I do as you suggest, how do I tell if the throttle plate moves? What/where should I look for? Thanks!

The throttle body sits on top of the engine. If you follow the air duct coming from the air filter, it leads to the throttle body. Remove the air duct and look inside the body, you should see the inside hole obstructed by a round plate mounted on a thin shaft. This is the throttle plate. It twists around the shaft when you step on the gas pedal, to control the amount of air that's sucked into the engine. With ignition off, ask a friend to step on the gas pedal and watch that plate. If it rotates, you have a mechanical throttle. If it isn't, you have an electronically-actuated throttle.

Regardless, the vibration is not coming from the throttle, but appears to be caused by the engine under load. You can have one or two cylinders that don't work as well as their siblings. When you spin up the engine, due to its mechanical inertia, these imbalances are less obvious and the vibration's frequency goes up, making it appear to be easing up.

Here's what I would check (in this order): engine rubber mounts (look for broken or smashed mounts), spark plugs (replace), spark plug cables (replace, make sure you don't mix them up). While replacing the spark plugs, check each cylinder for compression with the special pressure gauge - please let us know if don't know how to do a compression test, we'll explain. If the vibration is still there, there are other things to consider, but please take the above possible causes out of the way first.

Let us know how it goes, and good luck!

Something to look at...

I had a vibration that I could feel thru my foot on the gas pedal of our 2000 Taurus. The vibration was only detectable between 60-70 MPH on the highway. Didn't occur at any other speeds. I put the front end up on stands and checked everything. Found the left side tie-rod has some play in it. Went ahead and replaced the tie-rods on both sides. Wha-La...Vibration gone.

This may not be your problem, but it's something to check...

Question

Sorry for the late reply. Took to a local garage. They checked the motor mounts. They said one was wearing. They attempted a fix. They put it on a lift and checked the front end. All was good. No change. Best part is they didn't charge me. Took to a second garage. Put on a lift and all was good. Checked the plugs and wires. Said they were okay but will need to be changed when I do a tune up. Asked about a compression issue. Neither one thought that was it. When all settles down, I'll have them give it a check and report back with the results. Thanks again.

I drive a 2001 Mazda Tribute and I have noticed a vibration in my gas pedal. The speed doesn't effect it any. However, it only shows up when my steering wheel is straight and/or turned right. When I turn it even slightly to the left it goes away. Not to mention its only in my gas pedal, haven't noticed it in my break pedal. I know it sounds strange but it really bothers me and I would like to get it fixed. If anyone has any ideas please share. Thanks in advance.

I realize its an old thread. Did you ever get to the bottom of this. I have a 2013 mondeo with exact same symptons.

Hi guys
Strange one this. For a couple of weeks now, i have been getting a vibration through the accelerator pedal. It gets worse above 30mph and seems to be getting worse as time goes on.
Google throws up a lot of nonsense on the issue.
Has anyone here experienced anything like this?
Im thinking something to do with the throttle body but any ideas are welcome

It would seem the vibration is speed related. The next thing to determine is if it can be created with the vehicle in park or does it need to be moving. Whichever one it is will determine what path to pursue.
