This sounds like a bad CHTS. If you take your car to AutoZone, they'll check the codes for free.

CHTS = Cylinder Head Temp Sensor

That's only my initial guess, but there are numerous things that could cause your problem. That's why I would recommend takingyour car to AutoZone toget the codes checked for FREE. This will determine whether your ECU is throwing a CHTS code, some other code, or no codes. Please let us know the results so we can help you further.

Ouh, Euro ... I take it that you don't have an AutoZone where you live. Don't go out and buy this part just yet. That was just my initial guess - the ECU codes would've helped to verify this, but I don't want you to replace parts you might not need.It looks like we're gonna have to do this with the trial-and-error method instead, unless your Focus has OBD that's user friendly. What year is your Focus, and is it carbureted or fuel injected?

I had a similar problem with my blazer, it would start up and run sluggish for a few minutes, coded out to be a bad mass-air-flow sensor, instead of replacing it I cleaned the little resistorbridge with alcohol and it works great again now.
