Question '05 Escape - Short/Wiring issue?

I have a 2005 Escape that has a problem. Today when I got in to come home from work it started great as usual, and headed home. After a few miles there was the smell, and a little smoke (I think) . . . fried wires. It drove fine no warning lights. I got home shut it down. I restarted it and tried to put it in drive and the transmission lock will not release, the break lights are not working, the left trund signal is not working. I check all the fuses and they are good. ????

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

These types of problems are difficult to troubleshoot , but my first suggestion would be , if you have the owner's manual, look in the fuses section and see which fuse(s) control the items mentioned in your vehicle's problems. Many times that will direct you to an area you may have missed for fuses etc.,especially if more than one fuse or circuit is involved.
Some later model vehicles don't all use the stop lite switch alone to directly release the shift lock mechanism. Does your vehicle have a console shift or column shift ?

I have a 2005 Escape with the 3.0 V6 engine. Something keeps draining the battery. I just bought a new battery and it drove fine. Let it sit for a week and the battery is dead. Any idea what could cause it?
