1985 F150 Fuel Problems Please Help!
Hello; New to the forum, but I am hoping to find some help. I sincerely appreciate any guidance you may be able to give. I have a 1985 f 150, 302, EFi 2 wheel drive pick up that has developed problems. I replaced the high pressure pump on the rail, and the low pressure in the tank. I replaced the fuel filter on the frame, and the one in the black plastic fuel diverter. The truck would run for about a minute and cut off. I disconnected the high pressure pump from the engine end, and with the switch turned on and off fuel filled a plastic cup pretty well. I got the truck started, it ran for about 2 minutes, and I thought I smelled something burning...? Now the high pressure pump doesn't seem to work. Did it burn up? Why? I have just about hit the wall with this system. Can I simplfy it somehow, run off of one tank? Put in a fuel cell, drive it off a cliff? I also repalced the fuel relay, and I do hear it click when I turn the switch. Anything else I can do? Can I upgrade to a more modern system. It's an 85, so I don't want to go broke in the process. Thanks Chip

Wow, a lot going on...If you replaced the pump and you know for a fact it was working but then smelled something burning. I would assume something went sideways. Did you recheck to see if you were getting power to the pump after the burning smell? If you still have power to the pump but the pump isn't working then I'd say you fried the pump somehow. If there isn't any power then I'd trace the power line back to the fuse. Is the fuse good? If it blew then I'd start to look at the power line, Did it get pinched and cause a short? There are a lot of what if's here. Grab your VOM and start checking down the line.
