Default Best code reader

What is the best code reader that will work with a 6.7 diesel and gas engines as well. I don't need it to tell me everything just what the code is and how to get rid of it. Thanks for the help guy's.

Unfortunately, we haven't yet found a code reader that gives you the code and how to fix it.,,,,,,,,correctly !
Some companies market them, but in general terms only. Your best bet is to shop around and see what you can get for your $$$/

What codes do you want to be able to view? Engine, Transmission, Airbag, various other modules that normal code readers will not see.
No code reader including the Ford IDS program we dealers use tells you how to fix a issue, all a code does it say there is a issue with this sensor/electrical part, that is where you should look.
Lots of people seem to like Forscan which is a civilian computer program that I believe is similar to the Ford IDS program.

I want to read the Engine, Tranny, Airbag, and O2. I do not need something fancy or all the bells and whistles just so I can use it on the 6.7 diesel and gas cars and trucks.

Do you want to view live data?

You do not want something that is Ford specific so it won't be quite as capably.

Autel is generally a good company to go with for higher end scanners, my dealer uses one for sales used cars, I think it sells for around $800 and its pretty capably for most basic stuff, I think its a Autel MaxiDAS DS808.

Here is a medium level scan tool thats only a little over $100, it does appear to have basic live data, does engine, transmission, ABS, airbag.
