ignition locked

ignition locked
My 05 Freestar will not start; the key goes in the switch but won't move AT ALL. Tried turning steering wheel, but wheel is locked as well, with only about 2 inches of play that will not jolt loose the ignition switch. Brakes are locked as well - won't push in at all. Driver door was left ajar last night and light inside was on all night, but lights work, horn & remote opener work, sliding doors work... seems like I have power. Any suggestions?

RE: ignition locked
Just out of curiosity, have you tried turning the key while turing the steering wheel back and forth. I'm sure you have, but was just wondering. Door being open shouldn't have anything to do with the ignition switch. BATTERY SAVER system will kick in and kill all power to the electronics, so you're good to go in the battery/power department.

RE: ignition locked
Good advise and here is another suggestion, did you use the proper key?
Maybe trying your second key might help as I cannot see any problem the lock itself is just a regular cylinder and unless some of the pins are damaged it should work.
If all fails I can give you some information getting the lock out but I have to look in the shop manual.

RE: ignition locked
What I can make out from his comments that the key will not turn at all when in the lock so it must be the wrong key or there is a problem in the lock cylinder.
There seem to be no response from this fellow so I assume the problem has been solved, would be nice if members would follow up on their questions.
