Default Relays for trailer

Howdy,

I have an '04 Freestar SES and am in the process of installing a class 2 hitch. Anyway, I called a couple of U-Haul joints to get a quote and a couple of them told me that they would have to order some extra wiring for the trailer lights and would have to run a wire to the battery for power. Well, I talked to another U-haul dealer and he told me that all I need are 3 relays. He told me that I could find these relays in my owner's manual. I did find the diagram of all the relays and fuses and found the 3 that he is talking about. I called the local Ford dealer to ask them if they could tell me which relays I need. They told me that they need an engineering number or part number. I don't have that b/c I don't have the relays. He said that they don't have a way to cross-reference with what's in the manual. I thought that is pretty stupid. He said that they would have to run a diagnostic on it and the machine would spit out the part numbers needed. I thought that was stupid and that they obviously want me to come in so they can charge me $80 for something that I KNOW they have the answer for. Does anyone have the towing package on their Freestar and if so can you get me the engineering numbers and/or part numbers for these 3 relays. My manual says that they are relays 29, 30, and 31. They are all micro relays. Will all micro relays be the same?

Any help would be obliged.

Thanks

Figured it out and now feel like a complete idiot. I got to thinking...if I need a micro relay for the trailer lights as the manual states and there are other functions that currently use a micro relay, perhaps they're the same part, thus I would have my part number. Sure as ****, I looked in the fuse/relay box under the hood and all of the micro relays in there now are the same thing. I ordered 3 from the local dealership. $9 a piece. Ford told me that they would have to run a diagnostic on it to find the right part numbers. Bastards! They were just trying to get $80 out of me for something they already knew.

Yep, sounds like it. Find a new dealer if you can. If they have a website, see if you can put commenst on it and ream them a new one, or email the general manager, let them know that they are a bunch of BS artists and you won't stand for it, YEAH[sm=violent053.gif]
