Changing the cabin air filter
#2
msfixer,
Believe it or not, your Ford Freestyle was not equipped with a cabin air filter from the factory. This is actually a pretty prevalent practice nowadays, as auto makers opt out of installing cabin air filters because they feel customer's hardly ever change the filter anyhow so it'd be superfluous to include this obsolete part. Frankly, I believe that they don't include cabin filters in many of their new vehicles because they don't make enough profit off of the replacement part..
The strange thing is that Ford still designed a compartment that looks conspicuously like the area where a cabin air filter would reside. To access this area, you would have to remove the glove box dampers (refer to this Freestyle glove box diagram) and then you will see an air filter mold. (outline) This is where the filter would typically be located.
Hope this helps!
