I want to put 20" rims on my 2011 fusions. The shops are saying it can't be done... Someone please tell me that's bs!

Any other modification recommendations would be appreciated

Some things just can't be done - period. The shops say it can't be done because there may not be enough room in the wheel well to fit the large rims, or because the struts don't have enough clearance at the spring plate to accommodate the larger wheel.

I had a Mazda 6 a few years ago. The front tires were running some 5 cm under and about 3 cm away from the spring plate on the front strut - so there was NO WAY to put larger wheels on. You can, of course, install rim spacers - which will make the wheels stick out and mess up the forces and moments in the wheel bearings - then cut the fender to make room for turning. Anything can be done, however some such changes will exceed the limits of reasonability and safety.

I didn't mean to discourage you, maybe this CAN be done, but you know the old saying: if people keep telling you that you're drunk, they may actually be right ... HTH ....

Keep in mind that larger wheels will reduce fuel economy, reduce performance and skinny sidewall tires don't offer very much protection to the rims, which means damaged rims are very common with over-sized wheels.

If a professional is advising not to try and do this, it might be best to listen to their experienced advice.

Take care and have a good one.

Default Mustang Alloy wheels on my 2011 Fusion SE

Hello,
Just thought I would say that I had the opportunity to buy a set of P215/65/R17's alloy wheels with almost new Michelin tires mounted and have put a pair on the back wheels. I'm having some standard P225/50/R17 Goodyear Eagles mounted on the other two rims to put on the front. Hopefully this will get done today, and I can try to post a picture sooner than later.
Satisfied New/Used 2011 Ford Fusion SE Owner,
Brad
P.S. I'm getting great gas milage, the last fill-up I averaged 37.6 mpg.

Default 2011 Ford Fusion with P215/65/17 on the Rear

Hello,
Hopefully this picture attached showing my 2011 Ford Fusion SE with the over-sized Michelin tires on the rear. the car rides great with these tires on, and I managed to get some used GoodYear Eagles (P225/50/17) put on the front.
