Default 2014 Fusion SE Ecoboost Gas Usage Wrong

I recently filled up my new Fusion SE after a trip that was reset when I last filled the tank. The display showed that I had traveled 544 miles and used 13.6 gallons of gas, giving me a solid 40 mpg for the trip. However, when I proceeded to fill the tank up, no extra top off amount, I put 15.05 gallons into the car. Has anyone else noticed this or had this happen to them with the fusion? The difference lowers my mpg to 36.15 which is what the rating is for highway, which is 98% of the 544 that I traveled, but severely lowers my outlook on my other 36mpg rated trips.

It will probably improve after you put more miles on it. Give it time.

Ford recommends waiting 3-5k miles before doing fuel economy calculations for the initial break in.

I'm not saying that I have an issue with the gas mileage itself, but with the screen that displays gas usage. Are you saying that Ford knows that this takes time to break in? Do either of you know what type of device they use to get the amount of fuel used, as in weight loss or a flow meter of some type?

I have to leave this one up to Makuloco2000, because they use many pieces of info from the vehicle and instead of dazzling you with brilliance I would have to baffle you with bull****. Sorry !!

You have the opposite of the mileage reading issue that I have. I usually run my car to about 16 gallons consumed (16.5 gallon tank) and I top off at about 15-15.5. I think you should honestly wait until about 10,000 miles before you get a real accurate reading. I averaged 25 mpg in my 13 SE that is 2.5L and now I average 33 mpg. The computers that calculate this stuff will get a better understanding for your driving style, how much fuel you use or overuse. If I remember correctly, they give you a projected miles til empty based on your driving style and how much gas is in the tank.
