Default A/C blows cold than volume of air goes down.

Air conditioning works fine for about 2 hours then the volume of air get restricted and drops to a trickle even though the fan is still blowing on high and the air is still cold as i can feel it. It doesn't matter if it is resurculating air or outside air or floor or defrost. The fan does change speeds correctly. If I turn vents off for approximately an hour and then turn the AC back on the AC air is blowing on high again. It's almost like something is freezing up and restricting the air flow, then thawing out when turned off. Everything works great when you're trips are under 30 minutes.

Thank you in advance for any help.

You hit the nail on the head.
The evaporator is freezing up.

There is a sensing line to provide info to the control to shut the compressor off or lower the flow of refrigerant.
Unless you have the tools and knowledge of refrigerant operation, you would be better served to have a qualified shop handle this problem

I’ve been working with two Ford dealerships regarding a similar problem. Also sought out the advice from a highly rated independent mechanic in my town. He gave me a thorough explanation of the issue.

There’s several possible root causes that are difficult and time consuming to narrow down but in the end everyone indicated that there is a rather industry wide problem with A/C cores, evaporators and compressors related to the newer refrigerant. Since this is a wide spread defect across multiple manufacturers the replacement parts are back ordered for an indeterminate time. Presently no ETA. My part was ordered in August 2024. No ETA as of October 24. The diagnostic run by the dealer indicated it was not simply the sensor. After that diagnostic the A/C which performed exactly as described above, no longer put out ANY cold or cool air. I returned to that dealer immediately and literally refused to leave until they returned the unit to the condition in which I brought it in. Two hours later after they completely recharged the system I left with a fully functioning COLD A/C system that will once again eventually fail.

What does this mean: NON OPERATIONAL AIR CONDITIONER.
Further since the heat exchanger is tied in to the same system which is not working properly it is highly probable that this component is under excessive stress which will eventually lead to early failure.

FORD MOTOR COMPANY FAILS TO NOTIFY OWNERS OF ANY VEHICLE MANUFACTURED WITH THESE SYSTEMS!!!!!

FORD HAS ABANDONED ITS CUSTOMERS AND LEFT THEM WITH VEHICLES THAT DO NOT FUNCTION WITH A WELL KNOWN INDUSTRY WIDE DEFECT.

Since this not technically a SAFETY issue they are not required by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to issue a recall. They are also not required to pay for the expensive repair.

However there have been instances when failed A/C systems lead to fogged windshields reducing visibility and leading to crashes. Anyone having such an incident is strongly urged to report the incident to NHTSA.

In the meantime here is what one general manager of my local Ford store suggested: Buy a new vehicle!!!!

Unfortunately trying to identify such problems BEFORE PURCHASING a vehicle or for that matter any large purchase like an appliance etc is nearly impossible. The consumer is left holding a useless POS!

Never again would I buy a Ford and will let anyone I know interested in purchasing Ford products about my experience.

Can you be a little more specific as to which component fails and why ?
Have a problem with just adding refrigerant corrected the problem.
