RE: 1991 F-150 5.8 Help
try a new intake like a k&n. A spacer for the throttlebody (found on ebay fairly cheap) which take minutes to install will help mpg and power. Buying a chip or programmer really isnt the best way sometimes. They may require a higher grade of gas with the new program and thats gonna cost you big bucks soon enough.

I agree a chip isnt always the answer. I recommend some sort of free flowing intake filter or cold air kit,K/N, Air Raid what ever you prefer. free flowing exhaust, full synthectic oil change, eng, trans, rear end, good tune up and advance timing a couple of degrees. Keep your foot out of it. LOL then if you still arent satisfied try a programmer/ chip and place it on economy.
Hope this helps should make a big difference. It did for me on my 91 f-250 when I drove it nice.

I agree as well. I have the same motor and I have found out a few things, Ive had 4 of these so far. First off the chips you see online that say add up to 50 plus horse and 4 mpg instantle, dont fall for that crap. All the things are is a ressistor that tells your engines ecu to run eaner and prematurly ignites he fuel in the cylinder and can damag your pistons, connecting rods, etc. The best way is to speed the money and get a real programmer and stick with the name brand stuff. Trust me ive gone threw a 351 with one of the cheaper chips, DONT FALL FOR IT. That being said, I run the msd ingition system stiff and it works awsome! if you really want to get into it change the gearing out in the rear end.
