1993 Ranger 4.0 check engine Light?
I recently bought this truck. Its a 93 with 92,000 miles and 4.0 engine with 5spd manual 4x4. I traded my 95 eagle talon tsi all wheel drive turbo for it. Its lifted 5 inches with a superlift and a 3inch bodylift, with 33's. I've been getting close to 10mpg since i've had it, I can not figure out why though. I understand that with the big tires gas will suffer but not this bad. When im driving it feels like its surging and missing and everynow and again the check engine light comes on. I checked all the plugs and their almost new.. the wires look good too. Im thinking its an oxygen sensor(s). I was wondering how to pull the check engine light codes for this beast.

CEL light flash codes can be retrieved by connecting a jumper wire from the diagnostic connector as pictured to the single wire test line..Or you can take it to one of the parts vendors like Autozone and have them read for free..

Try the owners manual or simple google search for Ford Ranger Error Code and you may come up with it, if not then you may go to ford and talk to a mechanic in the maintenance area. Theyd probably be glad to tell you what it means.
