last time i checked freeon was illegal....... unless you know someone that has freeon that will do it under the table.
you will have to go have it checked by someone that messes around with ac. if i were you i would check the compressor first that seems to be the thing that always goes out.

Keep in mind that even if you find someone to recharge your AC system with R12 "under the table", it SHOULD be done by a professional. A system flush and leak check should be performed, it can then be converted to conventional (and much cheaper) R134a. But the real reason to have it done by a professional is that by simply adding freon to a depleted system, you are diluting the freon/oil mixture of your refrigerant, which is in most cases what ruins the pump (that or running undercharged), in short, pay to do it right, or pay to re-do it right if you don't understand it.

i don't know exactly where everyone is from but i'm from canada (saskatchewan) and frion is all they use in a/c systems here, but i'd say either the compressor is shot, or there's a leak in the system and the compressor won't kick in unless the pressure in the system is up to spec. i don't really find the r-12 systems to be very good in the rangers so i put a r-134 in mine and it's almost like a freezer in there if its on long enough
