Default 1999 abs problems

hi i have a 1999 ranger 3.0 flex W/ 4wd and the abs comes on when i brake under 10 mph. I was wondering if anyone knew what the voltage outputs should be on the abs speed sensors so i can check and see if that were my problem is. Also why is there only 2 wheel speed sensors, how is this able to communicate with the computer only seeing those two points? thanks

Your Ranger has3 ABS sensors. One in each front hub and one in the rear diff. Rangers/Explores are known to have wheel bearing grease breach the wheel seal and gum up the toner ring on the front hubs. To see of this is the case, unbolt the ABS sensor from the front hubs and rotate the hub looking for grease. If grease is present one or the othertoner ring, I would replace both hubs as the hubs come preloaded with the ABS sensor. The problem with replacing just one is that anew sensor sends out a stonger signal than the older sensor, this will cause ABS issues. Also, if one failed, the other one normally goes shortly after words. Besides, for just one nut and 3 bolts, they are easily replaced.

only the right hub has the sensor and there is grease on the reluctor ring, so this means the hub seal are bad. why does the grease affect the voltage output

There should be an ABs sensor in each front hub. If there isn't one in the left hub, this should set the ABS light solid. Grease on the toner ring causes a weak and fluctuating signal to go to the processor. The sensor doesn't wotk off of voltage, it works off of frequency. Grease also means that the wheel bearing seal is bad and the hub bearing will eventually fail. Normally when you least expect it to.
