Default 2000 brakes issue

I have a 2000 XLT 4x4 standard 4.0 litre. I am having a real problem with my brakes and it is getting scarey. Sometimes when I press the brake pedal it goes all the way to the floor. I cannot push down any more and I keep on moving. One thing I had to do the other day was put the truck in neutral and hit the emergency brake. I have checked fluid levels, looked for leaks and everything seems to be fine. Is there a read I could see on this issue?

Welcome to the site..

Does the pedal 'pump up' or 'stack up' if you depress it a couple more times when stopping or during a low pedal condition? If so, its more than likely an internal leak inside the master cylinder. Sometimes you can duplicate the problem when stationary by applying moderate brake pedal pressure,, then very slowly/slightly release pressure keeping your foot on the pedal and you'll feel the pedal bleed down and slowly drop under your foot.. Could be an ABS problem as well..

Thanks for the reply Hayapower.

Sometimes when I press the pedal it tries to come back up. It makes a sort of pulsing thing and makes a funny noise. But then afterwards when I press the break a few times it will go down some but it comes to a point where you can press no more. It is almost like it is jammed. I should have mentioned that the ABS light does come on. Another thing I noticed is when I stop the vehicle and leave it sit over night, when I start it the next day and try to move it seems as if the brakes are locked. I have to reverse slightly to get them to unlock.

Someone mentioned to me that there is perhaps a sensor that is not reading that I am trying to apply the brakes. Is this possible? Where would this sensor be?

Sounds as if you may have abad ABS processor. Have the ABS codes read, and no the inexpensive readers at Autozone will not do it............
