I had a 2001 F150 ext cab sport. Had the 4.2 5 speed. It was a great motor! put 120,000 miles on it with NO problems at all. K&n filter with aftermarket exhaust and it was very strong. Got about 20 highway and maybe 17 in town if I stayed out of it.

Man I wish they would put that motor in the Ranger.

If your lookin to prerun it i would get a 2 wheel drive you will get more travel up front and a better ride. Now if your lookin for power i have a 4.0 ranger and it does just fine in the desert. And if you lookin for a good site for every thing you need www.camburg.com is the best.

if you want a 2 wheel drive, go for the full size, they handle like a car and ride great, if you want a real 4 wheel drive, buy a ranger with good tires, anyone who has had a ranger can say they have went through stuff that they never even dreamed they could get through, including myself, its just an all around great truck

definitly the 4.0 RANGER. has all the power you will need, and aint huge (never did like full size trucks). also, nothing looks as good as a Ranger as a 4X4 with a lift and some tires under it. I have a a 94' Ranger 2WD. wish it was 4WD. has a 2.3, so it has great gas mileage, just no power. I test drove a 4.0 manual transmission (i would go with the manual, has lots more power w/ better gas mileage than an automatic)Ranger a month ago, threw me back in the seat, in 2nd i was going 45mph w/o even windin it at all. I'd definitly go with a 4WD Super Cab Ford Ranger with the 4.0L.
