88 2.9 5 Speed, loose shifter, clutch pedal travel?
Well first time Ford owner here, found a heck of a deal on an 88 supercab ranger. It's got the 2.9 v6 and a 5 speed.
Any vehicle that old has a few minor issues.. Two that concern me are:
The shifter has a lot of slop to it (in N it can freely flop left and right), the owner claims it has been like that since having the clutch replaced. Is there an adjustment I can make to tighten it up a bit?
The second is the clutch pedal doesn't feel right. You have to push it almost the whole way to the floor for the clutch to disengage and let off almost completely for it to engage. Clutch fluid looks okay. I've never seen an adjustment on an hydraulic clutch before, is there such a beast on this thing?
Aside from that its all very minor stuff, radio, door lock cylinders, etc..

Hello welcome to the fourm,The shifter may need to be tightened. If not it will require new bushings and gasket (easy job). As far as the clutch it seems to be common. The clutch system might have to be bled. This is a real pain to get all the air out.

Well after driving it home, I'm getting used to the clutch pedal. I guess I'm just used to the pedal feel in a car.
The sloppyness in the shifter makes it hard to hit 3rd, keeps wanting to pop over into first, that led to a few embarassing tire screetches..
Anyway, I got the haynes book but I don't see any sort of adjustment.
How would I go about adjusting it? As for the bushing, I checked Advance and Autozone but niether had the faintest clue what I was asking for.
Is it typically a dealer item?

You will have to find out the trans type it is either a Mazda MD05 or a mitsubshi. You will have to get the bushing and new pin's and gasket from ford. Once you do remove the shifter boot you will see three screws I think they are T-25 make sure they are tight first. If tight place shifter in neutral and remove the shifter. You will see 2 pins and a bushing.Remove and replace. And there is no adjustment for that clutch. The olny thing you can do is bleed the clutch (like brakes)If that fail's I would replace the clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing.

I think I can handle that.. While searching trying to determine what trans I have I found this link.
Ranger / Bronco Transmissions
I guess the Mitsubishi trans has a removable cover on the bottom and the Mazda does not.. Looks like I have the Mazda unit..

Thanks for the info, I havn't checked it yet, but I will...
Well I went to the stealership today, but we couldn't figure out which part it was I needed. The guy provided me with the printout
that I managed to scan in..
Any idea which piece is the bushing that typically wears out?
Thanks again

Look's like [ul][*] 7221 pins x2[*] 7207 gasket[*] 7228 bushing and possibly the one'a under 7210 lower. The one your looking is a plastic bushing that revive's the ball of the shifter.
