93 ranger missing spare tire
Recent purchase. No spare tire. Trying to get replacement spare or...possibly better...reconstruct full size spare to store in same place if possible. Just found out that a Taurus wheel won't fit. What other wheels out there are compatible (5 X 4.5") ?

If you use it as a spare, mounted under the truck for that possibility of a flat tire, there is no problem but When you use it keep your speed low and get the regular tire fixed right away.
If you want to use it with your rotation patterns, I would recommend to get a matching wheel, or at least a matching tire size. If you use miss- matching tires sizes you may increase wear on the differential and you will affect the handling, braking etc.

2 problems with a 14" as a spare if you have 16" tires.
1. Make sure that the 14" rim will clear your front brake calipers as the size of the calipers changed between model years.
2. A 14" tire will be about 4" less in diameter making the tire on average 2" shorter in height when mounted on the vehicle. Unless you mount a 215/75-14 on the rim, then you'll only be about 1" shorter in height when on the vehicle. This however, all depends on the size of your existing tires.
Any 15" and 16" rim from a Ranger, Explorer, Aerostar will work. A 15" will allow you to get a "Same Height" tire as a 16" by using a higher side profile.
