Alternator Walkthrough?
The alternator crapped out on my '00 Ranger...I was just wondering what the level of difficulty is of doin it myself, im mediocre when it comes to mechanical inclinations, and if there are any posted or well known walkthroughs on how to do this?[&o]

RE: Alternator Walkthrough?
If it is visible it should not be that hard.I have a 3.0.But dont rember the 4.0[ul][*] Just disconnect the battery[*] Remove the belt[*] Disconnect the wiring[*] Take out the bolts[*] Replace the alternator[*] Replace the wiring[*] Replace the belt[*] Reconnect the battery[*] Keep in mind the way the belt goes before you take it apart also the wiring .If you are skeptical I recomend that you by a repair manual at the auto part's store. And now would be a good time to replace the belt.

Alright, Im gonna give it a shot then! My girl just had the belt replace at a shop back in April so im hoping it's still good. But what is the most gentle way to take the belt off without damaging it? It's a big *** alternator and it's pretty visible! one of the 130 amp ones.

Ok I forgot to tell you. By one of the smaller pully's you will see a small square. That you insert a ratchet extension (1/2 inch drive) in it and I belive you push it down to relese the tension off the belt.If you get lost on how to put the belt back on there is a sticker on the truck to show you the way.And make sure the belt is in on all the grooves before you start it.
