Another newb M50D question..
Decided to change the transmission fluid on the new (to me) truck..
Checked the level, couldn't even feel it with my pinky. Decided to drain completely and refill..
What came out was black as old motor oil..
I filled it back up with Mercon ATF. Every resource I see says it'll take 3.8 qts, however mine only took about 3 before it started spilling out of the fill hole.
I waited a few minutes and came back thinking there was an air bubble, but it was still full.
Also I might add there was a good sized glob of fine metal particles on the magnetic plug. (About what you would find in a differential that's never been changed in 100k miles)..
The truck has 160k on it, not sure if the fluid was ever even changed. Then again, the 3 plugs on the top feel like they are metal freeze plugs, definatly not rubber.

RE: Another newb M50D question..
That's why I said yesterday to alway's check it. Cause this is the main falure on these transmissions. I personaly think that the ATF cook's it self in these tranmission's that's why it is black and low. I have also heard of pepole using gear oil in this trans. All thow not recomended.
