check engine light on in 01 Ford Ranger
My friend has an 01 Ranger with the check engine light on.
It has the 4 liter single overhead cam V6.
The computer readout says that the oxygen sensor in "Bank 1, Sensor #2" has failed.
I am not that familiar with Fords, so I don't know which cylinder bank is Bank 1, and I don't know which sensor Sensor 2 is.
How many oxygen sensors do these trucks have?
Here are all of the codes from this truck:
P0171 System Too Lean - Bank 1
P0174 System Too Lean - Bank 2
P0300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0136 O2 Sensor Circuit Malfunction Bank 1 Sensor 2
P1131 Manufacturer Control Fuel Air Metering
P1151 Manufacturer Control Fuel Air Metering
Do you think from these codes that the O2 sensor is the only thing wrong with the truck?
Thanks for any advice.

Maybe, but if bank 2 is lean that would suggest a problem effecting both sides. I would suggest a new air fliter if not already and cleaning the MAF sensor with Maf sensor cleaning spray. As well as checking for exhaust and vaccum leaks. Bank 1 should be the passenger side # 2 should be the lower sensor. There are 4 O2 sensors.

I have a 2000 Ranger with a 3.0L. I keep chasing a P1151 error code. What is/Where is the "air fuel metering manufacturers control"? I cleaned the MAF, cleared the code, filled up at another station. Cleared light. Light was out for about 35 miles. I even replaced the O2 sensor on the pass. side nearest the manifold. (I assume this was bank 1, sensor 2). Help!

In my case, P1151 turned out to be a vacuum leak- though it took me a LONG time to find it. There was a crack in a vacuum hose leading to the intake, only it was underneath where I couldn't see the crack.
What I think they mean by "Manufacturer Control Fuel/Air Metering" is basically that the fuel/air metering can't be controled by the computer due to a problem external to the system. A vacuum leak would be an example of a problem outside the system that the computer can't compensate for.
I replaced the cracked hose and the problem went away.

Here is a write up on some common causes of the p0171 and p0174 ...
P0171 and P0174 OBDII Code Diagnosis
I have both codes logged in my '03 Expedition and have not found the cause yet ... the adventure continues...
