Door Seal Freeze up - 2002
I have a 2002 ranger edge model 2 door extended cab. It has always seem to have freeze up (and summer vacuum seal up) issues since I picked it up in August 2006. In NJ no a big problem but I am now in the Albany NY area and have had a heavy frost cause the door to freeze shut. I have siliconed the gaskets but it is not working as well as it should. Has anyone had similar issues? I am thinking the door lock mechanism is set a little to tight and the gasket can not move so any moisture and the door freezes closed. I also have issue on days that go from nice to hot with the doors vacuum locking to the gasket. I have decrease the problem by cutting a small piece from the rearward side of the upper door gasket. Please forward any ideas..........FYI, you can actually see light paint rub/stick on the gaskets.

Try loosening up the door strike post and move it outward just a little, then retighten. This will keep the door from being closed so tight. I installed a set of aftermarket seals on my 88 Ranger S/C when I repainted it several years ago. Had the same issue as the door seals were a little larger than the original OEMs. I adjusted the door strikes until I could just barely pull a dollar bill out from between the door and seal.

USC, It looks as if moving the door strike out has worked. However, When I hit a good bump I get some noise from the door. I assume this will diminish over time as the door seal has a chance to expand, and if not I will replace the rubber door stop that has probably been compressed over time. Thanks again.
