Default JUST FOR KICKS

Hi im new to the ranger group an looking to buy around a 2000/02. This will be my back up and toy so any ideas of what combo to buy. I dont off road so 4x4 really is not important.I read thier is 2 v6 I think. did they make a ranger with a stang motor for some get up and go.or do I need to look at an f150 instead. going to drop some coin in 2 weeks any ideas.

No the Ranger does not have a V8 option, and due to the 5.0L not being used in production cars with OBDII computer and the dimensionally larger 4.6L requiring serious mods to engine bay, an engine swap is not really an option. I have a 2002 Ranger Edge 3.0L 2x4could use more power but handles suprisingly well. The 4.0L has more aftermarket performance options and stronger to start with.

I know you can do the V8 swap on 98 and older Rangers. I have seen it many times at car shows and even going to attempt it myself. I don't see why you couldn't do a V8 swap on newer Rangers if you had a wrecked donor car such as an Explorer. But the 4.6 is wider and tomb1269 could be right on the engine bay needing modified, but it would only take time and money. If you want to lower the suspension or put hydraulics on it I recommend buying the 98 or newer Ranger. The I Beam suspension on the older ones make it difficult and more expensive to drop it. Try out this link it may help you make a more informed decision. http://www.rangerpowersports.com/[/align]

Here is the only article I have found on Modular motors (4.6 & 5.4) being placed in the Ranger. The newer explorers have wider frame rails and are generally wider that the ranger. If you know of another please post. I am not looking to do one at this time but it's an Dream................I even have a print out of engine diminsions to measure out the engine compartment this spring...........
