New Belt Squeling just as loud as old?
So about 2months ago i had to replace the belt of my 98 Ranger 4x4. The old belt was squealling like a stuck pig so i knew it was time to be replaced (had been on for almost a year). Only problem... after just 2 months the new belt is squealing just as loud as the old. Tried belt dressing but that doesn't do anything except make it worse. I don't want to shell out another 40dollars for another new belt if its not the belt in the first place. Is there anyway the belt can be adjusted so it shuts up? Or is there a problem with one of the pulleys on the Serpentine assemply?

Sure its the belt?
Tryremoving the belt and see if the sound is still there.. If it is, andsounds like a high pitch 'chirp' itcould be the cam synchronizer.. Very common problem, and at the least, sound be ruled out.....

The sensor is the camshaft position sensor. The shaft it sit on used to be thr distributor shaft before direct ingition systems. The shaft is the cam syncronizer, Napa can get them, if you can get through to the right person I beleive Autozone was able to get it, strauss can get it as well.
FYI #1: Autozone website lists it under external engine parts as a distributor. Try this link if it works,http://www.autozone.com/N,15300030//...eResultSet.htm. Also called crank angle sensor.
FYI#2: The Dorman unit states that it comes with alignment tool, which you will need to install the new one.
