Default Rear Locking storage box

The original window sticker for my 1988 4x4 Ranger lists a "rear locking storage box" in the list of things included in the price. Anyone know what this box is and where it is located? The owners manual has no info on this box.

Didn't Ford in the '70's have a tool box in the side of the bed? It was just in front of the rear tire. Don't know if it had a box on both sides or just one.

I have looked this truck over pretty good and cannot find any kind of rear lockable storage box. Must have been something that could be removed.
