RE: Removal of Cats
i have a buddy that did that and his truck bellows like a cow. i would not do it concidering its illegal in most states (doubt anyone would catch u though) also it helped with power but not much mpg. i would just get a high flow cat and stick with that.

RE: Removal of Cats
I'm going to put an off-road H pipe on my 03 Mustang GT and thought of having an off road "straight pipe" made for my Ranger. I've allready installed a two chamber flowmaster with dual turndowns, I'm guessing that the removal of the cats would make a whole lotta extra noise!
So you say that there wasn't much in the way of performance gains though?

Your bottlekneck for breating isn't in the catalytic converter, so improving flow there will have minimal results. Also worth noting, the increase in exhaust flow will cool down/speed up your exhaust gasses as they travel through, likely causing a poor reading from the o2 sensor, thus effecting mileage. I would support Hi Flow cats, but aside from messing with mileage and makeing more noise, it is illegal to remove cats. Just my opinion, if you want more power and better flow, do hi flow cats, a good head port job, match the intake, and think about hi flo injectors and an adjustable FPR (and cams are always good).
