Bolts are in one of two places. One - on the front of the shift **** - usually an allen head screw (set screw) OR two (the newer deal) undo the shifter boot - lift the boot up and disconnect from transmission.

Yeah - I recall there's some stupid pain in the *** way to removing them. I'm trying to recall what it was you need to do. I think there was something I had to do under the floor shift boot baseplate to unhook the shifter. I don't think they screw on at all. I thinkthe **** ispressed and fit solid to not come off. Yeah. To get it the whole arm off I think that's what I'm thinking. No. I don't recall them having threads at all. If you want the whole arm off - pull off the shift boot baseplate then pull the boot inside-out (vulcan style) and out of the way then undo the nut and simply bump or tap the bolt on the side the nut was on (careful not to kill the threads) and it pops out and the whole deal comes off. There ya' go.

By the way - the bolt is wedge shaped (inside where you can't see it).

If your just trying to get the black plasticshifter ball off the end of the shiftershaft, the shifter shaftis just a splined end with the ball pushed on with glue applied. I put a chromed "T" handle on my shifter and popped mine off by putting a cresent wrench around it with 2 small pieces of leather over the sharp edges of the cresent wrench. Then I tapped upwards on the cresent wrench woth my weighed plastic hammer.
