Default thump on acceleration & braking

I have a 99 Ranger that actually will jump/thump a little when accelerating and when stopping. It almost feels like the truck gets hit in the rear when stopping. Anybody know what causes this?

Check the drive shaft for anything odd.

the drive shaft is split and had a coating on it, as it wears it does not slip like it used to. So the fix is to use a good quaility grease and pull it apart and grease the heck out of the spline. make sure you mark how it comes off with a grease pen, both ends and the middle also....

sounds like it could be a worn u joint. chock the wheels on your truck ,put it in N and try moving the drive shaft, look for where the play is coming from.

I have a 2000 Ford Ranger that has the same problem. It showed up shortly after the warrantee ran out. I get two thumps on acceleration and two thumps on braking. I put it up on a hoist and could not find any problem or anything that was loose. Another Ford Ranger owner told me that his Ranger had the same problem and the dealership changed out the drive line, twice, before it went away.
