Time for me to make a decision: replace engine?

Time for me to make a decision: replace engine?
I have a 92' Ford Ranger with 2.9 V6. It has 247,000 miles.
I have been monitoring these symptoms for almost a year now:
1. engine misfiring, roughness, valve train noise initially when I start truck. then it clears up after a few minutes.
2. #2 cylinder spark plug frequently goes bad. Porcelain insulator is vaporized or plug threads are wet from oil.
3. Just in last week, white and blue smoke out tailpipe for 5 minutes after truck has been sitting a while.
4. Coolant and and oil is disappearing rapidly.
Ok, is it definitely time for a new engine?

I hate to be the bad news man but you are right. Now it is just a matter of seeing how much an engine would cost you versus a new car. Especially if you are having any other issues with the vehicle it might be time to get rid of the 92'.

And just the other day, I found coolant residue on the oil disptick and oil filler cap. So the engine is terminal.
I got a few estimates for engine replacement. The Jasper engine with labor is $4600.00. the mechanic I go to only trusts Jasper remanufactured engines.I think he would probably refuse to install anything else. Said he has had problems with all other brands except Jasper. But it will probably go over $5000.00 with tax and other engine related components that might need replacing.
