Since 2008, I've been driving a '99 Ranger.
However, this morning I was going 50mph (5 under
the limit) when someone pulled out in front of me.
I didn't even have time to lift my foot off the gas.
I'm a great driver, this was my first accident, and
I am so grateful to be alive. If not for the airbag,
seatbelt and sturdy cab altogether, I wouldn't have
been able to crawl out of the window without a
scratch, which is incredible considering the state my
truck was left in. She treated me well. I'm very sad
to say goodbye.
I'll never feel as safe in any vehicle as I do in a Ford.
Only problem is, I'm going to be without a vehicle
for quite a while since I was on my way to work my
last scheduled shift at my seasonal job. Talk about
convenient timing!

I'm pretty sure the woman who hit me was on something, she definitely wasn't straight. She seemed a little out of it. She was fine other than a cut across her face. Her 9 yr old was okay too, thank God. I remember seeing the front driver side of her car was smashed from where I hit her. I was assured that it was her fault by the officer. She's insured as far as I know... I'll be filing the claim with my insurance tomorrow. Really hoping they help me out... I've never had a reason to contact them.

 

Hope so..

I was in a crash on the freeway a while back when the traffic suddenly stopped. Was rear ended by a young girl talking on her cell phone. I was in a 95 F150 and she slammed into me at about the same speed as you were traveling and shoved me full brake lock into the car I was following. Although we had all stopped, it even pushed the car I hit into the next car. Destroyed her Chevy completely, but when she hit me it cracked my head on the back window of the truck and almost shattered my teeth and I was a bit dazed. My neck (although i always though that was somewhat bogus) was pretty painful for months,, and finally with some therapy and time seemed ok. We were having a BBQ and someone called my name and I looked over quickly.. BAM, hit me again.. Ok now, but be careful before settling with either insurance company..

other problem area could be the hands. If you had the hands on the steering wheel the impact can brake the grip and slam the hand on the dash board.

chest: the belt can push hard against the rib cage.
The airbag can cause injury to the chest and face.

The point is that the shock keeps you form feeling and noticing pain at first. Also you are not in a mental state to pay attention to details.

But I am glad you and the other folks are o.k.

 

I'm definitely feeling a little pain today. I keep finding new bruises. Big welt on my head. Looks like two burn marks on my hand. Bruises all over my hip. Both knees bruised up. Left arm is sore. Sprained my wrist. Some cuts on my lower leg. Nothing broken! Just feels like I partied too hard last night. (=

Agree with Hayapower and bluewind, don't be in any hurry to settle since some of the aftereffects will take months to heal. Hope you get better soon !

 

Glad to hear that you're at least doing well enough to tell us (and warn us) about accidents. I've always been a bad driver, and I admit it after 8 years of delivering pizza for Domino's. But, I've been lucky enough to never have an accident.
I'm sure I will. It only seems to be a matter of time and odds after working in the biz for 25 years. Hopefully, it won't be in a customer's car. Or, if it is, I'll just be killed.
Whatever you do, it would be very much worth your interest to get yourself a good attorney to represent you. Not your insurance agent, a seperate lawyer.
And whoever mentioned about not being in a frame of mind to notice immediate injuries is COMPLETELY right. After going to a chiropracter for years, it sometimes take years for injuries to become apparent.
Protect yourself. I'm so very glad to hear that you're allright. But, looking on the bright side, there was more than one Ranger made. And I agree; they were pretty bulletproof!

 

Not only that. You need to visit a doctor to document it all. Besides just because something does not "feel" broken does not mean it is in one piece. Stress fractures can be particular tricky.

Without documentation by a doc you will have a hard time proofing your pain and claim.
