1995 Taurus stalls in hot weather
I have a 1995 Taurus GL, in the 4 years I've had the car, once every summer the car stalls out in hot weather on a long drive. I usually have to let the car sit with the hood up for at least an hour before the car will either start or stay running. The car will be driving perfectly fine until it stalls, then it feels like I have no fuel pressure and the car shutters then stalls. After the car has sat for a short time it will start, idle for a bit then stall again, after about an hour it will drive perfectly fine again. It's happened twice with the air conditioning running, twice without. Usually only happens once a year, car drives fine the rest of the time, no pressure problems at all. It's been suggested that I replace the fuel relay switch, wondering if this is worth it, I understand that it can't actually be tested so I wouldn't know that the old one is bad per say. The car does not overheat, has plenty of fluids, temp guage never goes past half way, plenty of fuel in the tank.

Through the research on the internet that it has to be the TFI module. I called Ford yesterday, they said there were no recalls on this matter (I guess it was never life threatening, unless your Ford dies while you are in fast traffic). Anyway I told him everything I had replaced on the car in the last 2 yrs. trying to resolve the problem. I'm ordering a new distributor with the TFI module on it. The cost of the complete unit is just a little more than the module alone and you get an ignition pickup/stator with it. I talked to a retired mechanic, he said the place he worked replaced several TFIs and never had a customer come back on the dieing problem.
Oh, for the other reply. It has nothing to do with the amount of gas in the tank or fuel pressure. It's electrical, No Spark, No Run.

you may need to have a trusted mechanic test the sensors this cars has. my '99 did the same thing two summers ago finally had a mechanic go thru all the sensors and test/replace. cost over $700 by the time all the labor and parts. It seems high, but by the time you figure the aggrevation and tow bills it was money well spent.

My piece of crap Taurus
My piece of crap Taurus did it again yesterday. The temp. was over a 100 degrees, but I spent over $500. last year trying to repair. Yes the sensors were checked and cleaned. I had 5 kids with me ages 6 – 12 and a dog, too damn hot for them to walk and too damn hot for them to set in the car waiting on someone to pick them up. I'm afraid to take short trips or get in rush hour traffic, I'll get killed. It's about time for FORD to own up to the mistake and fix the problem. I only have 113,000. miles on the car. I know other styles of Fords with the same engine don't have this problem. I'm ready to trade for a 20 year old Honda or Toyota. I don't want a GOVERNMENT MOTORS vehicle.
