2000 Taurus Bucking at high speed/RPM
[hr][hr] I have a 2000 Taurus wagon with a 3.0 SOHC with a 145,000 miles. It started bucking occasionally and once it started it would continue for that drive cycle. Then it wouldn't do it again for a few days and then it would happen again. The trigger always seemed to be at about 60mph, with the cruise on, and going uphill, it would hit 3500 rpms and then start. I started with a couple of tanks of gas with "Heet" water remover. I then changed the fuel filter, plug and wires. On Saturday I installed Cam Sensor and it ran great for 2 days. Then today it started again. I had a new gas tank and fuel pump installed about a year ago. I had just fixed a hole in the filler neck about the size of a quarter which was right behind the rear tire where water and debri could have easily spun in. So I was thinking that either the fuel pump strainer might be getting plugged with crap that got in there or that the Sycronizer might need replacing. When I replaced the Cam Sensor the Syncronizer looked good from what I could see. I was told that it might be the Idle Air Control valve, but I'm not sure where that is or what it does. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.........Tony
