2008 taurus vent air too warm
My blend door works; I can hear it open and close. In the fully closed cold position, the air coming out of the vents is a full twenty degrees warmer than ambient running on outside air; and even a bit warmer than that on recirc. I don't like the situation. It means the air coming out is always too warm when I'm not running the a/c. When I do run the a/c, it takes a toll on the performance. I don't like the situation.
The dealer says this may be normal. Is it? Also, which motor is the blend door actuator- the one behind the glove box or to the side of it? How much warmer is your vent than your ambient air when you'r not running the heat or the a/c in a new taurus or in a recent ford five hundred? Thanks, James

Hello and good day to you:
I would first like to say that the Dealer is correct in this as a normal process. The only way I know of that would relieve the Temperature down would put a Hight Temp Rated Thermostat installed...However doing this will give you less Warm Air in the Winter.
I am not clear on your question here "Which motor is the blend door actuator-the one behind the glove box or the side of it"?
Are you referring to the Blower Motor? If you are referring to the Temperature Control operation...this is a combination of Vacuum lines, and Cables...to control the Temperature flow door located above the Heater Core, and Blower Housing.
I would like to suggest that if you place the Control into the Vent position...to let the outside Air to flow in this may relieve some of your problem.
Good luck with this 6

With the temperature set all the way to the cold side and no A/C on, the output temperature will always be higher that the actual outside air as the air coming in is picking up heat from the engine compartment and surounding electrical components under the dash. Feel your radio some time. These things put out the heat just by themselves. When on MAX, you'll get even higher air temp circulating as your circulating warmer air that is picking up even more heat.
What do you mean that it's taking it's toll on performance when running the A/C?
I have an 08 Sable that there's no difference in performance with the A/C on or off. By performance I mean MPG and the GIDDY-UP and GO.

RE: 2008 taurus vent air too warm
about performance I meant the cooling of the cabin, not the powertrain. On the vent air being too warm, you know, on the 99 taurus I own there is an extra blend door flap to seal off BEHIND the heater as well as in front of it toprevent radiant heat from getting into the vent system when the dial is set to cool air. I wonder if the 08 lacks that. It does, for example, lack a cabin air filter. How much warmer is your vent air than your ambient air when you're running in vent with no a/c? Thanks.

I'll have to check since I haven't driven the Sable in about 3 weeks. With the electronic temperature control and the lowest setting of 60 degrees, I don't know if the system will blend any warm air into the vents to maintain the minimum 60 degree setting since our outside temp is about 19 degrees.

Well, finally drove the Sable yesterday. I was almost wondering if the Sable even knew that I was it's owner. It was 31 degrees outside. Set the temperature down to 60 (lowest setting) and placed the air flow to the center vents and A/C in the OFF position. Air was definately coming in with very little difference between the outside temp and the temp of the air exiting the vents. You may have a door blend issue with your taurus.
