95 wagon HELP with floppy gear shifter!
175k miles runs perfectly, all is great except a very FLOPPY gear shifter. When I got it, it was hard to get it engaged into, or out of any gear. I realized that even though I put it into "Park" it does not engage, stays in reverse, and rolls away. (which it did)
So I have to keep the e-brake on to park it. And flop it into neutral to start it, then flop it into drive, to drive anywhear. What is the part called, that is not working? How much do these run, and whats up?

RE: 95 wagon HELP with floppy gear shifter!
I dont work on a lot of Tarrie's so cant recall , is the shifter on the coloum , or the floor , if its on the coloum , I would check all the bushings on the linkage rods. , Only other thing I can think of is the bushings that the shifter rides on if its a floor shift , theres really not much to those shifters just usually a set of ears an a pivot style ball/ yoke. it should have a cable on the tranny end if I remember rite , the shifter is a stand alone unit, I would get one outta a junk yard if it was mine.
