97 Taurus Transmission disengages when stopping sometimes
Hi,
My 97 is in relatively good shape...only 167k, the Transsmission shifts like it is new (almost)...by that I mean it has smooth shifts...no kicks or slips and power is good....but there are some noises.
Anyways recently it just started to slip...but not sure if it is actually a slip...when I first drive away everything seems fine, I back up and then drive away...when I get to the first stop after driving for about a minute the tranny seems to drop to neutral, it can take a minute sometimes to re-ngage....once the engine is warmed (about 15 minutes) up it doesn't do it?
What I'm trying to understand is if there could be an issue with a sensor related to the brake pedal...or related components..when I step on the brakes what parts come into play that could actually be the cause? I'm trying to avoid a rebuild of course...
Some issues to note.
1. Engine lite is On for the Cam sensor ( still runs fine)..but has been one for about 6 months prior.
2. When I am stopped with my foot on the brake...there is a sound like a bearing, but it doesn't sound like a harsh metal on metal scraping/grinding sound...just like maybe something is spinning and needs a little bit of oil...that is the best way to describe it.
thanks for anyone who replies.
