Default ac compressor

I recently went into a car shop that told me that my AC compressor was bad. and that it was so bad that it can cause my other parts of my cars to begin to start over heat it. i guess the belt on the AC would stop or break off then this would mess up everything else where the water pump would start to not pump water into the engine to cool it off.

does this sound familiar with anyone? please help because i am not that experienced with cars.

thanks

It is possible.
A bad A/C Compressors (belt pulley bearing) could lock-up....thus causing the belt to burn & break, which would stop the operations of the other unit(s)that may also drive off the same belt...like water pump, alternator, etc.
Also, a bad A/C Compressors (Clutch) could cause the same type problem... if the A/C unit is being operated in most cases.
Inboth cases,a A/C Compressor Clutch-Kit can be installed instead of replacing the whole compressor unit.

If it is for sure the A/C compressor, and not the A/C clutch bearing, or the A/C clutch itself as dukesport mentioned, you can unplug the A/C compressor's electro magnetic clutch connector eliminating the possibility of running the compressor with the A/C or Defroster (A/C runs in defrost mode).. It the compressor fails is can take out the belt with results as mentioned, more so on a shared function belt.. If the compressor 'comes apart' internally it will pollute the A/C system with debris as well..

What year is your Taurus?

You might be able to sharpen the pencil a bit on that repair by shopping around..
