Default Horrible Dealership Experience

New Ford battery died. Towed to Brian Hoskins Ford. They found nothing wrong. Charged me $48.00 for charging system tests.

Battery died again next day. Jump started and took it to 3 different places for testing (Auto Zone, Firestone, Advanced Auto) and all detected a bad alternator (open diode on ripple test).

Back to Brian Hoskins Ford for a retest. Found nothing wrong again. They bashed the 3 above and referred to their test equipment as "inferior."

Battery died again the next day. Took it to Sloan Ford. They immediately detected the bad alternator and replaced it under warranty.

Upon completion, returned to Brian Hoskins Ford (with paperwork) and requested a full refund. Upon review of Sloan Ford's testing procedures, they replied "We don't have the equipment (Sun rig) they used and that's why we didn't detect your problem."

However, they still charged me $48.00 to do a partial test with their "inferior" equipment. At that time, I demanded a refund and I got it; however, they showed no remorse for my experience.

The moral of the story, avoid Brian Hoskin's Ford (PA) like the plague. I've had problems everytime I've used them and this last problem is really the "icing on the cake."

Thanks for reading my tale of woe. Unfortunately, I no longer feel confident in doing this type of work myself so I'm forced to pay others to do the work. However, if Brian Hoskins Ford were the only dealership left on the face of the earth, I would attempt to do it myself.

Some dealership service depts. leave a lot to be desired, but there are many good ones out there. When you find a good one it doesn't hurt to let folks know . A lot depends on the work load and the skill and quality of their techs. Usually a well run dealership never has to advertise, the customers do it for them. It is unfortunate some manufacturers will not stand behind their product and leave the dealership sometimes holding the bag.

In my particular case, the Ford Factory Extended Warranty was not the problem. It was clearly Brian Hoskin's inability to properly diagnose the root problem. On the other hand, Sloan Ford identified the problem within minutes and had the new alternator installed within 2 hours. As stated previously, I have had nothing but trouble with Brian Hoskins Ford. Here's another example:

Went in to buy a new battery for advertised price of $119.95 (rip-off?).
They told me it would be an extra $29.95 to install it; I said OK.

I almost fell over when I saw the final pricing for a new battery:
$119.95 for the battery
$29.95 for installation
$39.99 for installation kit (which consisted of 2 felt grommets)
$48.95 to confirm charging system was OK.
They never told me about the 2 additional charges so I demanded a refund and got it!

During the same service call, I also asked them to quote me a price to check my rear brakes for squealing at times. They never called me with a quote and simply checked the brakes as OK (no work done) and tacked on a $62.99 service charge for pulling the two rear wheels. The funny thing about this charge is that they always do a "free courtesy check" of the brake pads and it was reported as such on the final bill. So I had a free check and a $62.99 charge on the same bill for doing the same thing. I demanded a refund because they did the work without informing me of the price and I got it!

In summary, these bozos fooled me once, and they fooled me twice, but I guarantee you they will never fool me again! Thanks for responding.
