yep, I see a few online with this being the lowest but still can't quite get around the $300 labor and the flush costs which bring things back up to 6-700$

Try here for your A/C parts...

http://www.techchoiceparts.com/

$135 for a new compressor. This is where I bought the new one I installed in my 2004 Freestar. It's also where I bought everything else I needed (orifice, accumulator and so on). The compressor comes with a 12 month warranty. However, if you have the compressor installed by a shop, there is paperwork that comes with the compressor that you can mail in with $25 and get a lifetime warranty.

You'll also want to use a NON-HYGROSCOPIC oil for the compressor. I recommend Polymax2 oil. The Polymax2 can be pruchased here.

http://www.autoacsystems.com/_store/..._itemsoil.html

You'll want to rid your system of all old oil and any oil that is in a new/rebuilt compressor. My spec chart shows that you'll need 8 oz. of oil for a fresh charge.

If you plan on keeping the vehicle for several years, I would stay with the R-12 freon. The R-12 to R-134a conversions just don't cool as good as the system components differ. Your choice though.
