Default Timing belts

I am brand new to the Ford Forum. I have been a member of FTE for many years.

I have a 2000 Taurus with a V6. Does this engine have a timing belt like most OHC 4 cyl.?

Default RE: Timing belts

I was interested in buying a Taurus but I didn't want a car with a timing belt. I was looking at both models with the 12V 3.0L V6 and the 24V DOHC Duratec 3.0L V6. I called 3 dealerships to see if all their answers agreed. They all told me that both engines with a timing chain and not a timing belt. I therefore bought a Taurus. I got the 24V DOHC 3.0L 2000 Taurus. So far I am happy with the engine. It has almost 150K on it now. It does however have a slight oil burning smell to it when Ipark it. I will be checking into that soon.

the dohc 3.0L engines are prone to oil pan leaks, don't wait to long cause those engines don't like to be run dry, trust me
