Default where is the heater core in a 98 ford taurus

so my buddy's ford Taurus has no heat. car warms up fine but no heat. I have been doing some research and I think the heater core may be pluged. I wanted to check so see if the pipes going in and out got hot and if not I will flush it.

only one problem I have no idea where the heater core is. heck I have never evan seen one of them (never had to) and don't evan know what it looks like.

It my buddy's car so I dont have it handy to poke around. and I dont want to look go at it and not be able to find it.

I have a Haynes manual and it does not seam to say much

any one have any other ideas on what it could be?

To access the heater core you'll have to remove the instrument panel to get to the A/C evaporator/heater plenum..

Here's a typical core image, and the core outlet (#2) and inlet (#3) positions on the firewall behind the engine..
