Hello out there hope all are well. I own a 2002 Ford T Bird and I need a part that has been discontinued. Part #XW4E9C915AB. Canister purge valve. I cannot find one because it's been discontinued. There are used ones out there but not interested in buying this part used. If anyone can shed some info on this part or even a cross reference part # or any information please feel free to contact me. Thank you all

You may not have a choice but to buy a used one. I wouldn't have a problem installing a good used one. I did not have any luck finding a new one either for a T-Bird.

 

Just about all purge valves do the same thing.

If it is impossible to obtain a new one exactly like the present one , you may be able to install a slightly different one as long as the connections will work.
Can you post a pix of the one presently on your T Bird?

Part of doing a good diagnosis requires a little detective work.

What code are you receiving?

Depending on what we get will determine what checks we do. Are we sure the valve itself is malfunctioning?
We at this time don't know if the valve has an electrical problem or mechanical problem. If electrical, it could be internal to the valve , a poor connection or possibly the PCM.
If mechanical, it could be only stuck, again there are checks we can do to determine which of these possible causes it might be.

Based on what code caused the C/E light to illuminate will determine what we do next.

Fuel cap light came on but I installed a new Motorcraft cap about a month ago

Suppose we start with a little background ?

When refueling , do you stop adding fuel when the nozzle shuts off or do you continue putting as much fuel into the tank until it will not take anymore?

I ask this question because the system to capture vapors will not tolerate liquid fuel getting into the canister and now the charcoal is saturated and when purge is scheduled the charcoal gets into the purge valve causing it to stick open producing an over rich condition and or fail the evap system check initiated by the PCM.
That can produce the same code as a leaking fuel cap.

It is important to know this so we don't go on a wild goose chase.
Where do we stand with this?
