Default '66 T'bird - Defroster door - Vacuum linkage removal

Hello All,
l am presently repairing my air condition system and the only vacuum actuator that has failed is the Defroster Door.
l have a replacement vacuum actuator on its way, but how is the linkage afixed to the door, is it simply just a Z type shape ? , l am a little reluctant to slip the old linkage off just in case l cant relocate the new one. l have checked all of the books l have but cant find this detail anywhere !!!
Can anyone assist who has performed this task previously.

Thanks again David DownUnder.

Some may have, however ones I know of used either an accelerator linkage-type clip or a special one that tightens upon removal attempts. This is a thin metal circle where the center is pushed back (forming an outer ring) where the inner ring is split into tangs (looking like the center on a clutch pressure plate). The tangs face away from the rod allowing the washer to slip on but upon removal they pull inward and lock on (to hold them in place). They are like the cap clip on a childs wagon axle only no cap.
